Smurfit Kappa Group plc (SKG) is a publicly quoted Paper Packaging company, listed on the Dublin and London stock exchanges and headquartered in Ireland.
SKG is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of containerboard and corrugated boxes. It has around 350 operations throughout Europe and Latin America, and is the market leader in paper packaging on both those continents. Annual sales in 2012 were €7.3 billion, and the Group employed over 40,000 people.
The company began as Jefferson Smurfit Group in Ireland in 1934, and grew by acquisition first in Ireland, then the UK, the US, Europe and finally Latin America through the 20th century. The largest transaction was the merging of Jefferson Smurfit and Kappa Packaging, to create Smurfit Kappa in 2005. The most recent acquisition was a $340m purchase of the Orange County Container Group, a Mexico and US based producer of containerboard and corrugated containers.

In Printing, Smurfit Kappa News Press is a Contract Newspaper Printer, employing 78 people, strategically located near Kells County Meath. We print national and regional titles for some of the world’s largest publishers. Recent investments at Kells have introduced Ireland's first triple width printing capacity providing second to none full colour print quality for a vast range of products and formats. DLRS is a security printing operation in Bray, Co Wicklow and Lisburn, Co Antrim employing 91 people that, as well as servicing financial and government institutions with high quality and high level printing services has been leading the development of electronic identification services in the country.
The Educational Company of Ireland (Edco) is Ireland’s leading educational publisher, employing 46 people and providing a comprehensive and innovative range of Primary and Post Primary books and resources to Irish schools for over 100 years. In recent years the company has been leading the way in providing digital content to teachers and students, to stimulate the teaching and learning process further, earning an “ICT Excellence Award” for the company’s school e book initiative which currently supplies 61 schools in Ireland.
