Our Patron Schneider Electric wins ‘Outstanding Contribution to Sustainability and Efficiency’ at the DCS Awards 2021

Schneider Electric, which has recently been named ‘world’s most sustainable corporation 2021’ won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Sustainability and Efficiency’ category at the DCS Awards.

The “special project award” has been given to Schneider Electric as a recognition for their exceptional work within the data centre sustainability field and the technologies used to meet the demands for resilience, efficiency, and sustainable operations.

In 2020 the company announced that they were aiming to accelerate their corporate sustainability goals and assist data centre operators to prevent 800 million tonnes of carbon emissions by 2025. So far, with their help, CO2 emissions have been reduced by 319 million tonnes.

Sustainability in the Data Centre Project of the Year

During the event, Schneider Electric and their partner, Elite Partners Advanced Power Technology, won a second special project award for the ‘Sustainability in the Data Centre’ Project of the Year’ category.

“By combining innovative designs with sustainable technologies and integrating with both renewables and the grid, our sector can play a crucial role in the quest to address the climate emergency. We’re delighted to receive this award for our contribution to sustainability and efficiency”, said Marc Garner, Vice President, Secure Power Division, Schneider Electric UK&I

As part of a larger digital transformation drive, the companies collaborated to implement a modernisation project for Newcastle City Council, which used energy-efficient technologies to lower the council’s carbon impact.

The project included modifications to the data centre’s physical infrastructure, such as new UPS, racks, enclosures, and containment, as well as the adoption of EcoStruxure IT management software to improve visibility into the operating environment.

The new system, when used together, increases the Council’s ability to assure service continuity, saves energy usage as well as allows its power and cooling systems to run at peak capacity.

Contribution to Sustainability and Efficiency

Schneider Electric’s mission has always included sustainability and efficiency. With sustainable, Green Premium technology, creative design and construction methodologies, and its energy and sustainability services (ESS) business, the company has a proven track record of assisting customers in reducing the environmental impact of their mission-critical infrastructure.

Their industry-leading collection of hardware and software solutions, which includes the EcoStruxure IT data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) platform, enables operators to get greater visibility into the crucial IT environment and minimise energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Sustainable backup power solutions, such as its Galaxy line of ultra-energy-efficient Lithium-ion uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), SF6-free switchgear, and microgrid technologies, help operators meet the demand for sustainability and resilience. Customers are also provided with energy storage and the ability to integrate on-site renewables like wind and solar with the grid.
