Smurfit Kappa has joined forces with Tom Dolan to raise awareness of its Better Planet Packaging initiative
After collaborating successfully over two years, Smurfit Kappa and Tom Dolan continue their partnership with a powerful goal: to raise awareness of the Smurfit Kappa initiative "Better Planet Packaging"
The Better Planet Packaging Packaging initiative draws on the expertise of Smurfit Kappa, the leader in packaging, innovation and sustainable development and offers many facets including futuristic product design, in-depth research and development and collaboration with existing partners. These developments are real areas of interest to Tom Dolan as a way of building a sustainable development environment.
Opening the future of sustainable packaging is the stated ambition of Smurfit Kappa, which recently launched the "Better Planet Packaging" initiative and could not choose a better ambassador than Tom Dolan to build awareness around the Better Planet Packaging Initiative.
“Tom Dolan is as committed to sustainability as he is to his racing career and this is one of the things that made him stand out to us. The rigour he applies to the selection and handling of all the resources used both on and off board is similar to the rigour we apply to the measurement of our progress against the five strategic sustainability priorities that underpin all our business operations.” says Steven Stoffer, vice president of development at Smurfit Kappa.
“I am delighted to be partnering again with Smurfit Kappa for my Figaro 3 campaign. I have worked over the 2017 and 2018 seasons with Smurfit Kappa when they sponsored me in the Mini 6.50 class and the Figaro 2 class.” says Tom Dolan.
Like Smurfit Kappa, Tom Dolan and his team are committed to circularity and operate a closed loop system that allows reuse, recovery and recycling as much as possible. Their commitments include the ban on using single-use plastics on their boats and reducing their carbon footprint.
“Smurfit Kappa’s Better Planet Packaging initiative struck a chord with me because it really aligns with my goals to have the most sustainable boat in the fleet and establish a new benchmark for carbon footprint monitoring.” says Tom Dolan.
Tom Dolan finished in 13th place on Sunday 31 March 2019 in the “Warm Up” Leg of the Sardinha Cup which is part of the 2019 French Championship for Offshore Sailing.
The next leg starts of Tuesday 2 April 2019 with a 600 mile race from St Gilles Croix de Vie to the UK and back.
