Sodexo wins €2M NUI Galway contract

Sodexo has won its first Irish university catering contract worth €2 million annually from NUI Galway, one of Ireland’s oldest and largest universities. JP McMahon, the Galway-based Michelin-star winning chef, author and restaurateur, will act as its menu consultant as well as providing training for the company’s 40 staff on-site.

With over 17,000 students and more than 2,400 staff, NUI Galway has a distinguished reputation for teaching and research excellence. Sodexo is also the first university catering provider to employ a Student Experience Manager to provide a central point of contact on campus and to help build positive, two-way relationships with students and staff.

Sodexo will be managing An Bhialann, the 720-seater restaurant that forms the heart of NUI Galway’s on-campus catering offer. Sodexo will refocus and refresh the restaurant, putting in a new selection of food offers.  It will work closely with local suppliers to offer food that is fresh, tasty and ethically-sourced whilst still competitively priced.

Ann Duggan, commercial manager, NUI Galway said, “We are delighted to welcome Sodexo, the global leader in the provision of catering services within the University sector internationally, and look forward to working with this innovative company who will provide a bespoke food offering focusing on wholesome, locally sourced food enhanced through the involvement of local food advisers to students, staff and visitors.”

Sodexo will introduce innovative LeanPath technology to help drive down food waste. LeanPath is an electronic smart meter which enables kitchen staff to track, monitor, and reduce food waste using a tablet device.
