Enterprise Ireland offer research grants to new agri-businesses

New agri-businesses are being encouraged to apply for funding to help expand their sales internationally.

Enterprise Ireland is making a feasibility fund of up to €25,000 available to agri-busineeses that are less than three years old, and want to trade in the international market.

Successful applicants will receive money to research their product, carry out market research, or to travel overseas to trade events.

The closing date for applications is September 6.

Denis Duggan of Enterprise Ireland says they are looking for outstanding products that can compete on an international level.

"In an international setting a product will have to be novel to compete," he said.

"it's not enough to think that price is enough of a differentiator, it's not, it has to be something innovative or novel or better than something that's already in the market and even better.

"It can't be one step better, it must be, really and truly for sustainability in the market, it has to be 10 times better than anything else that's already out there."
