Schneider Electric won the Multinational of the Year Prize at Tech Excellence Awards

Richard Corbridge (pictured) and Yvonne Goff of eHealth Ireland were named person of the year and IT professional of the year respectively at the 2016 Tech Excellence Awards held last night at the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin.

Ergo also picked up two awards: company of the year, and IT project of the year (private sector) for its work with Greencore.

The gala event was attended by over 500 luminaries from the technology sector, who gathered to celebrate a year of innovation and commercial success.

Galway-based tech entrepreneur Pearse Mee picked up the lifetime achievement award. Mee (65) sold his software company AMT-Sybex earlier this year to outsourced services giant Capita for €100 million plus additional performance-related bonuses.

Also recognised on the night, edgescan’s Eoin Keary was named in the rising star category.

Finally, the award for multinational of the year went to Schneider Electric and was accepted by vice-president, Ireland, Vincent Barro.

The Tech Excellence Awards were adjudicated by industry experts Eoin O’Driscoll (Forfás), Dr Jim Mountjoy (Euristix), Tom McCarthy (HelmAG), Peter McManamon (Parthus Technologies), Dr Seán Baker (IONA Technologies) and Louise Nicolls (Brown Bag Films).

Chairman of the judging panel Dr Jim Mountjoy said: “The level of professionalism among the entries this year is a true reflection of the maturity of the sector today.

“These Awards recognise excellence and there is no doubt all the leading players are striving to improve each year. It does make the judging quite a challenge.

“The volume of entries is a true reflection of the diversity in our sector with excellence being acknowledged for outstanding individual achievements and organisational success.”

Billy Huggard, operations director at Tech Excellence Awards organiser Mediateam, said: “The indigenous IT sector is on an upward curve, evidenced by the tremendous number of entries and level of detail submitted by the entrants. Just to make the nominations list is an achievement of great significance.

“To be on the shortlist of the Tech Excellence Awards is recognition of hard work and smart business practice, the IT sector is populated today by an ever-expanding pool of entrepreneurs who are reaching new heights each year.”
