The Solidarity / Solidarité Trophy

The Embassy of France in Ireland has announced the creation of a new symbol of Franco-Irish friendship in rugby: the Solidarity / Solidarité Trophy. As France and Ireland prepare to meet in the Six Nations Championship, this new award will recognise the winners of the men’s and women’s fixtures between the two nations, celebrating a shared sporting history and a close bond that goes far beyond the pitch.
"As France and Ireland prepare to meet on the rugby pitch, we are proud to unveil a new symbol of our neighbourly bond: The Solidarity / Solidarité Trophy, a landmark addition to the Six Nations Rugby Championship which will be awarded annually to the winners of the Ireland versus France fixtures in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
Unveiled by the Ambassador Céline P., Former Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll, and Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) president John O'Driscoll, this trophy represents the unique friendship that connects our two nations—both on and off the field.
Crucially, this initiative marks a historic first for the Six Nations Championship, as this is the first trophy awarded in a Six Nations match not only between men’s teams, but also two women’s teams.
At the heart of the Solidarity / Solidarité Trophy is a striking spiral design, symbolising connection, shared history and the enduring bond between the two countries. The silver and gold-plated trophies were produced by leading trophy designer and manufacturer Thomas Lyte. The Solidarity / Solidarité Trophy celebrates the unique relationship between Ireland and France, fierce sporting rivals on the field, and long-standing partners beyond it.
The Men’s trophy will be contested for the first time this Thursday at the Stade de France, with the Women’s fixture following on April 25th.
